Commission

I was approached by a lady who's sister was getting married, she asked me if I would create a personalised card for her sister from her. The time frame she had given me was a week. This made it difficult but I managed to produce a card. I used some hand drawn intricate patterns which I than scanned in and photoshopped and created a print that I placed on the front of the card. Given the short amount of time I was able to produce something that went with her criteria. She gave me a mostly open brief which made the short creating time a little easier as I was able to do what I wanted and also experiment at the same time.

UNIT X

As the practice unit concluded I had already decided I was going to carry on the practice unit by producing a final product and carry on what I was planning on making to begin with, the silk envelope and wedding invitations. Key points that I have highlighted in my learning agreement are:

Intend to use new and innovative ways to expand and improve what I have already created. My intentions for this project are to continue improving what I have already produced and create a professional product that has been impeccably executed.

I intend to further my research on texture, colour and love for pattern including my concept of Pakistani culture. My aim is to have a variety of silk and velvet prints that portray my journey and inspiration that is obvious in my cards.

Introducing materials and fabric to my cards. Before creating an actual product I will research into what is already out there and how I could use that inspiration to create something new and better.

To improve what I have already made I will look at different artists and creators who have used similar textural, pattern and colour techniques as me and incorporate them into what I have already created.

The wedding invites should clearly avoid clichés and show the different research I have conducted to make my work stand out on the market and not limiting myself to creating the typical wedding invite.

Evaluation

During the course of this unit I have been able to explore different parts of prints and different printing techniques. it has given me the opportunity to go down a route that I prefer with the allowance of trying a variety of paths. I have learnt my strengths and weaknesses through the different printing methods I have tried. I have also been able to explore different contexts to find a perfect one suited to my research and work. This unit has helped me learn more about myself, my work and my own culture. I have been able to explore people who work in a similar way to me.

The change of context in my practice was big vital moment in my work as it made me come to a decision where I had to think about ways my work could cater to a specific audience this change helped that as my work perfectly slots in to the context I have chosen. The context research has also helped me produce something very unique that has not been done before. This is something I m very proud of as I know wedding invitations could come across as a tacky cliche choice but I have made an conscious effort to create something innovative and unique.

Through the different techniques I have been using I've been able to stick to my learning agreement and follow it through. These techniques have enabled me to stick with the concept of texture, culture and journey. My work has been very personal I feel my work at the point I'm up to is able to show my journey and portray what my life is about. I feel my personality is something that comes through my work and the audience is quickly able to see what I am about and where my work leads to.

This unit has also contributed to my confidence in presenting and displaying my work for audiences. The short presentations at university I feel have helped me gain confidence in my work and talking about it at interviews I have had that have now led to offers. I have also learnt a lot about professionalism and how to portray yourself to an outside audience and how you want your work to be perceived.

In unit X I would like to continue to work the way I am at the moment with enthusiasm and motivation. I plan to carry this project on and perfect it by taking my best parts and improving them as much as I can to make them look professional and to show my journey. I hope to create properly executed envelops made out of my prints and beautiful cards of a wide variety full of textures and prints and colour, portraying my research and influence of my life.

Visualisation

I have used my mock envelopes as examples to photoshop my prints onto to give a feel of what they could potentially look like as I haven't made them out of prints as of yet but I am planning to in the near future. This was a simple straight forward and effective task as it showcases my prints perfectly. the only thing that I would change is the colour of envelopes next time using a variety of different background shades and also experimenting with a velvet option.
