Making task

We were given a task to make objects for a window box using aluminium cans and bottles. This was a fun task to do although it was tricky using the cans as materials. As I was making the flowers using these materials I decided to think of some restrictions that I could give myself whilst making the flowers that could also be applied to a school environment. I decided to use all the materials without having any mess left over. It wasn't a difficult task as it gives you a chance to try and make different outcomes out of one bottle or a can. It is a quick and easy way to make something using recycled materials.

We then went in to uni and everyone displayed their work and we all got to have a look at what they made this was a good way to pick up ideas and use other peoples tecniques with your own work. There was a variety of different types of flowers and bugs and many different object that could be put into a window box and used for a primary school class.

Mr X stitch

We had a very interesting lecture today by Jamie Chalmers. Jamie is a male embroider who told us a little about himself and his work, he'd initially started cross stitch as a joke but fell in love with it. He introduced us to many different artist who used cross stitch in their work. Some of the main artists that I'd highlighted and sparked an interest for are, Diem Chau, Mana Morimoto and Jose romussi. He also explained the importance of social media and your blog. It was interesting learning about all the different ways you can get your work out to the world using the internet and sending out one pot that reaches every social media platform.

Moodboard

I have created a few boards to show my colour palette and also some of the research I have gathered to give the person looking at my work an idea of where I am coming from and where i'd gathered all my information and all the influences for my pattern. I felt making these boards was very time consuming especially the fact that I kept wanting to change them and thinking the layout didn't look good in certain ways. Maybe thats just my OCD though!

Workshop & Colourways

I'd decided to go to a Colour workshop this unit and I really benefited from learning different techniques on photoshop that change the colours for you easily and also an easy way to use photoshop to make colour ways using the indexed colour button. I tried to make it as simple as I could for myself so I kept the colours to a minimum but just enough to show a different set of colours. I went all out and make a colour way for each of my prints in both of the collections. Its great seeing them in a different colour palette I must say I like a few in different colours. Here are a few from both the collections.

Second final collection

I have decided to tackle the minor issues that came up in my last tutorials and create another final collection. So, this time round I went through the same layering techniques as my first one but this time made the scale of the patterns bigger so the paisley is a little bit more distorted. I have also used similar types of colours to make sure I wouldn't have to used too much white to wash back the colours. I love this collection as well! I can't decide whether I like the previous one more or this one!

Visualisations

I have been working on making Visualisations of my prints on ceramics using Photoshop. At first this was quite difficult as I couldn't get them exactly right but once I'd got the hang of it finally the started looking great! I played with the opacity and changed the setting to Multiply which made them look more realistic. I think they would look bit better if they were in a proper dinner time setting but over all I feel its a good attempt.

Photoshop Work & Final Collection

Ive been spending some time on photoshop this week. I've been layering up my different prints by deleting backgrounds and only selecting the textures of some parts and the on other parts only selecting patterns. I'm really pleased with the results I think the colours and the patterns really stand out and look eye catching. After another tutorial I realised Maybe I should try using the same tones of colours and create samples that are less 'in your face' colour wise because I've been trying to wash out the colours with white. Over all though I am very pleased with this outcome as I've used a mixture of everything even my initial drawings of motifs from the beginning!

Final Designs & Evaluation

Here are a few of my final designs, I have mixed up both my drawings from the beginning and tried to mesh them both I have also used the influences from my first original disposable camera pictures. I think I have tried to mix my elements together well I am pleased with my final outcomes. I have tried to find a nice medium between the subtle colours from the beginning and the bright colours in my second set of drawings and mixed them so theres a mixture of dark light subtle and bright. Although I feel this might not be my best work so far I feel that I have proven that I have taken a risk in making all my final outcomes digital based as thats something I have not done before without help. I have aimed these designs at mainly a young female audience 16+ and I feel that my designs have a bohemian and floral feel to them which I think does reach out to that particular audience. I think my work does show a journey as I have tried to make the work from the beginning a part of the final outcome and I have tried include all the influences and research I collected on my travels. I feel that I have learnt a lot on this unit and will definitely be using these skills in the future. I will make sure to post a picture of my board once I have put my work up!

Interior

Ive been taking pictures of interiors that I think would look good with my wallpaper designs in the back but after photoshoping them I felt they didn't look the way I had imagined them to so it resulted in drawings which I then scanned into Illustrator and drew again. Then in photoshop I placed my wall paper designs in the back. I will only probably have one or two up on the wall but I have made a few for my blog to show the different designs and perspectives. I feel these designs I have made can be used in many different ways such as wallpaper, wrapping paper, notebook covers. They could fit in shops like Paperchase where patterns and illustrations like these are commonly found. They can also be used for cushion covers and bed sheets and also porcelain.

Photoshop Workshop

Today we had another photoshop workshop where we learnt how to make repeat patterns to and use the half drop repeat. This was a very good workshop as it helped me decide what i wanted to carry on and do for my final pieces Its helped me decide how to go about mixing the elements of both my drawings together into a final outcome. I have learnt a lot in this workshop and I feel its made me a little more confident in using more digital as I now know my way around photoshop a little. My Photoshop ability is improving massively and i feel that tghis will benefit me in my future as I think knowing these skills are vital as the technology is improving andlearning these skills are becoming a necessity Here are a few prints I have made using this workshop. I am really pleased with the results.

Developing work

Over this last week I've been thinking about how to mix the two elements of my two sets of drawings together and I've made a few samples that I am not impressed with and doubt i will have them as final samples although I may use elements of each drawing and maybe include it in my final final piece. I tried to use sections of other drawings in these drawings which I think were unsuccessful but I feel that the gradient tool parts are good and I will continue to use that in my future pieces.

Photoshop Workshop

Today we had a photoshop workshop where we were taught to use the tools on photoshop to place your pattern into an object as I am doing interior this time  have used an interior space. It was extremely useful as I feel it reflects what you are trying to show and also put what your doing into perspective. I placed one of my photoshop designs in to have a look to see how repeat patterns looked and I loved it!

Work so far & tutorial

Today we had another tutorial and I showed my work that I'd done over the following week. Ive been brushing up on my photoshop skills and I'd been changing colours using a technique called replace colour where I played with the colour tool and made colours change. None of these drawings are set in stone they are pure practice. Alex had told me that the drawing with the red part in the right hand corner reflected my initial research (disposable camera pictures) and also looked interesting so i have decided to include i through out my project. I was also told to continue practicing and doing more drawing work.
