I have enjoyed my first year at university, I have made new friends learnt new things and I am looking forward to next year. I tried Print in my first textile world, I enjoyed Print a lot but I feel it was not different to what I did last year on my foundation course. I don’t think I learnt anything new on that unit but still liked it. I then went on to doing Textile Design for Fashion I thoroughly enjoyed this unit as it was different to anything else I have tried. Sampling gave me the opportunity to try a different variety of practices and also taught me new techniques on Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. I felt this was difficult to begin with but toward the end when I used it more than once it became clearer and I feel now I can use it without having to go over notes.
I think I would like to continue Textile design for fashion because I consider it the discipline I feel I work best in and I enjoy the most, also I feel that I could incorporate print into fashion as I also enjoy print. I haven’t tried weave or embroidery but I feel as though they aren’t subjects that I am interested in as much as I am in fashion. I would like to continue to use Photoshop and Illustrator and develop my digital knowledge further as I feel these are my strong points and I pick up new techniques fairly quickly alongside enjoying the workshops. I feel I connected more with fashion as it is something I enjoy myself and I also think fashion is where I feel more comfortable and my mind thinks in a more fashion oriented way.
I have enjoyed making Flats and doing initial drawings and patterns at the beginning of the Sampling unit. In unit X I have explored Photography which I have enjoyed as well. I feel I could incorporate new things that I have learnt in Photography into Textile design for fashion as I think there are many paths that you could go down in this discipline including different career paths I am not entirely sure on what I would like to go into but I am leaning towards teaching. I have enjoyed looking at new trends and designs by designers and feel that I would like to explore Textile design for fashion further.
